Barcelona-linked Wijnaldum remains humble about Liverpool's contract situation

Georginio Wijnaldum has, of course, spent the last four years and more trading his trade with Liverpool.

During this time, the Dutchman firmly established himself as an integral member of Jurgen Klopp's midfield.

However, despite his pivotal role, the 29-year-old's future at Anfield is currently in question.

Wijnaldum entered the final year of his current contract with Liverpool.

And while he was so important to the recent success of the Merseyside team, his long-term future was in doubt.

Reports over the summer even said the Premier League champions had no plans to offer Wijnaldum a new deal.

Wijnaldum also seems to have sparked interest from Spanish football club Barcelona over the past few months, which no doubt added to rumors that his time at Liverpool is coming to an end.

If Wijnaldum does decide to join Barça, he will be able to sign a pre-contractual agreement with the Catalan side as early as 1 January.

As a result, Liverpool supporters would undoubtedly want the midfielder to agree to a new deal and quell rumors sooner rather than later.

However, Wijnaldum's recent comments are unlikely to reassure Liverpool fans.

The Dutchman recently took advantage of a contract situation when he was on the national teams. But Wijnaldum remained rather shy and even looked rather angry in his answer:

“I cannot say anything about this.

“Just ask Liverpool these questions. Don't they answer? I cannot say anything about this, including whether it is a question of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Regret."
