Olivier Giroud overtakes Torres in Chelsea history books, but Thomas Tuchel has problems in midfield in his second leg against Atlético

Olivier Giroud passes Torres in Chelsea history books, but Thomas Tuchel has midfield problems for 2nd-leg vs Atletico

Chelsea beat Atlético Madrid tonight, but the Blues' win came at a cost in their second game between the teams.

Fat matters

The people of Thomas Tuchel have recently renewed their European campaign.

The Premier League giants have traveled to the National Arena in Bucharest to play in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League against the Spanish leader in the Atleti standings.

The draw was considered one of the most difficult to anticipate, as the latter, despite its place at the top of La Liga, has looked less impressive lately.

And when everything was said and done in the Romanian capital on Tuesday, the troubles of Diego Simeone's people only worsened.

The only goal scored by Olivier Giroud 20 minutes before the match ultimately led Chelsea to a key first leg win.

The kick, which was only confirmed after a lengthy VAR test, was spectacular as Giroud demonstrated the athleticism of a much younger man by sending home a beautiful bicycle kick from the penalty spot:

Meanwhile, the Frenchman's last free kick was not only decisive for Chelsea, but also significant on an individual basis, as Giroud took 3rd place in the list of the best scorers of the Blues in European competitions:

Blues stars excluded

However, as stated above, the Londoners also suffered some serious blows to their staff on a great evening for Chelsea.

However, this did not happen in the form of injuries.

Instead, Thomas Tuchel saw a pair of his midfield stars take the yellow cards, eliminating both of their opponents for the club's second match against Atlético three weeks later.

We are talking about the players in question, represented by Mason Mount and Jorginho, as a result of which Tuchel should be forced to rearrange his package at Stamford Bridge on March 17:
