Khabib with Michael Chandler

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to tell the media that his time in MMA is over.
  • Michael Chandler is one of the top contenders for the next UFC lightweight title fight.
  • Chandler told the media that he hopes to be the person to end Khabib's departure from MMA.

After a spectacular victory over Justin Getjee in October 2020, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport of MMA. Since then, fans and analysts have debated whether he really retires from the fight. Some believe Michael Chandler could end Khabib's departure from MMA.

Chandler burst onto the UFC scene after playing Dan Hooker by TKO in the first round in January of this year. It was exactly the victory he needed to prove his lightweight status. Today we will talk about how the battle between Chandler and Habib could have developed.

Let's get down to it!

Khabib predicts Islam Makhachev will become the next lightweight champion

To say that the UFC lightweight division is difficult would be a big understatement. The 155 pound roster includes some of the best MMA fighters. Achieving sustained success in this weight class is a challenge very few men can handle.

Since 2015, Islam Makhachev has been slowly climbing in the lightweight rankings. From childhood, he trained Khabib Nurmagomedov. It is easy to see the similarities between the two competitors from Dagestan.

Islam has now won a series of seven lightweight bouts. His last fight took place in March 2021 against knockout artist Drew Dober. Makhachev became one of the favorites on all online sports betting sites and confirmed his chances by winning in the third round.

The main problem seems to be that nobody wants to face Islam. He is truly an elite fighter in the division. However, he is not very much of a personality, and most lightweights see fighting him as a high risk and low reward. Khabib Nurmagomedov understands the potential of his training partner and believes he will become the next 155lb champion.

The cage is full of fighters capable of defeating Makhachev. However, most of them have already lined up fights. It may take some time before the right opponent appears to oppose Islam.

There has been some serious talk lately about who will fight for the lightweight title. Michael Chandler now seems to be topping the list of contenders for the title.

Michael Chandler plans to end Khabib's departure from MMA

Not many fans expected Khabib Nurmagomedov to announce his retirement from MMA last year. He is still young and seems to have surpassed all the lightweight competitors. He scored a 29-0 record and seems happy with his legacy as a competitor.

Not everyone thinks that his time in MMA has really come to an end. Including Michael Chandler, one of the best lightweight fighters in the UFC. His recent first-round TKO over Dan Hooker proved to the lightweight that he is one of the biggest threats to the title.

Chandler is expected to meet with Justin Getjee or Charles Oliveira next time. There is a chance it will be for the world title. He spoke to the media this week about his 155-pound weight. During the conversation, he said that it was he who would put an end to Khabib's departure from MMA.

“I think he [Khabib] has unfinished business,” Chandler said. “I think 29-0 is not enough for him. He wants 30-0, but it has to be the right challenge. This is a really interesting aspect. “He already beat [Justin] Getji. He has already defeated Conor [McGregor]. He already beat [Dustin] Poirier. He has already beaten almost everyone in the top five, except me and [Charles] Oliveira ... Whether it's the title or not, then I have to win the title, maybe one day I will defend it, show that I can knock out people. Show that I can grapple and fight people, fight the best of them, and I think that showing that I am a ready fighter will be enough to entice Khabib to come out and try his 30-0 goal. But I have a vague suspicion that he will end up being 29-year-old Chandler. "

Chandler may be right in suggesting that Khabib wants to reach 30-0 in MMA. This was the goal that Khabib's father set at the beginning of his career. Whether Michael Chandler will be the man to pull Khabib out of retirement remains to be seen.

It seems likely that we will hear about Chandler's next fight in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

Two dark light horses will compete this Saturday

It's amazing to see how difficult the lightweight division is in the UFC. The focus seems to be on the top 10 of the division. However, even outside the official ratings, there are several fighters capable of becoming a champion.

Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell face off in the main event of the UFC at the Apex Center this Saturday. Avid fans of this sport realize how important this match is. Both of these men are considered dark horses in the division. Bovada offers the chance for this thrilling encounter!

Gillespie has been compared to Khabib during his early UFC performance. He was knocked out by Kevin Lee in November 2019 and has been inactive since then. Thanks to the pressure of the elite and the struggle, he is one of the toughest fighters to face in the lightweight division. He enters this fight as a -250 favorite.

Brad Rydell is not getting the fame he deserves in the UFC. He was thrown to dangerous opponents from the first fight with a promotion, and every time he came out the winner. He is one of the best strikers in the division and has a +195 chance of beating Gregor on Saturday night.

The winner of this fight could finally make it to the top 10 of the lightweight division. This will open up some real possibilities later in 2021. Stay tuned for more news on this fight this weekend.
