Speculation emanating from the Spanish media is hinting that Real Madrid may welcome the rented Martin Odegaard to the club this summer to boost their chances of landing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Arrow switch

Norwegian creator Odegaard was, of course, once considered the next rising star in European football.

However, after returning to parent club Real after an impressive loan from La Liga rival Real Sociedad last season, the 22-year-old has been battling for playing time.

In fact, in the first half of the Spanish championship in the top division, Odegaard got a pitiful 3 starts.

In turn, it should come as no surprise that yet another temporary departure from the Bernabeu, much publicized in connection with the opening of the January transfer window, when Arsenal eventually beat the competition and closed the deal.

Odegaard moved to Emirates for the remainder of the campaign to ease some of the creative burden on young Emile Smith Rowe:

Is the Bernabeu back?

Arsenal's latest addition to midfield has since appeared 4 times, including away at Leeds United and Benfica last week.

And the Norwegian, for the most part, made an impression by adding much-needed cunning to the ranks of the gunners in the middle of the park.

In turn, rumors have already begun to circulate in the media about the possibility of Edu and Co. to strike a permanent deal with Odegaard, with a future in north London after the summer, it would seem, is not out of the question.

However, as noted above, if the latest European media reports on Friday are to be believed, Arsenal's hopes of retaining the talent of the loaned midfielders could be in jeopardy.

This comes amid claims that Real Madrid may be ready to welcome Odegaard back to the club's main squad this summer.

Los Blancos are looking at the 22-year-old as a potential bargaining tool in their quest for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland sensation, according to a report from Spain's Mundo Deportivo.

Odegaard and Haaland - international teammates with Norway - are considered close friends, with the former's presence in the Spanish capital seen as potentially a key factor in persuading one of the most sought-after young talent in world football to trade Iduna Park's Signal for the Bernabeu.
